One Hundred Days Art Project Days 96-100

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 96-100

Day 96- September 5- I worked on an entry for the JWF Facebook group letter K&L challenge.I used log_db, linear3D, and loonie. Adding a final log_db stretched it out into a repeating pattern.

Day 97- September 6- I recycled some older creations to make more entries for the K&L challenge. For the first one, I changed the proportions to fit the 2048x650 size. For the second one, I added more K and L variations and more layers to fill in the design.

Day 98- September 7- I worked on another entry for the K&L challenge. This uses my new favorite combination, loonie plus log_db. I added curl3D to one layer to make the ball in the center.

Day 99- September 8- from simple to complex.
I used a variation called LazyTravis to make this. The shape is simple, but the shadows show a hint of something more complex. The second one reminds me of bobbin lace, or maybe an old radio. It's a mix of juliac, idisc, and log_db, with several layers combined to make a more complex pattern.

Day 100- September 9- Wow! The last day! It was harder to get inspired today because I wanted to create something amazing and perfect for the last day.

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 91-95

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 91-95
For the #roundrock100 art project, I decided to create fractal art with JWildfire software every day for 100 days. This is part of my journal.

Day 91- August 31- Today I worked on several attempts for the Letter I&J challenge. The first one used a final variation of juliac plus idisc. It wasn't the right dimensions for the challenge, and there didn't seem to be a way to add more colors to it. I forgot to save the parameters, so I'm not sure I could re-create it. The next I&J creation used loonie, log, juliac, and a final transform of idisc plus bipolar. It took four layers to get the look I wanted.

Day 92- September 1- Purple Snowflakes- I love purple, and so do several other people in the JWildfire Facebook Group. I made this picture with purple snowflakes, and then I saw Catherine B.’s mandala. We must have been thinking alike. A picture of snowflakes is a good antidote to a 100 degree day. Carol B. liked this picture so much that she made it her profile picture on Facebook.

Day 93- September 2- A combination of loonie2 and log_db. I tried some of Missy G.'s tips on colors.

Day 94- September 3- This was another of those days when inspiration struck. The first picture, Bubble Drip, started with a simple shaded bubble, and after a lot of changes it evolved into this final form. I used a sharper copy as the background, and another version with depth of field and bokeh bubble effects as the foreground. I had trouble getting the two layers to line up in the preview window, so I ended up having to report it as a bug in the software. The next design I worked on started with a gaussian blur, and then I added a final transform of hemisphere plus cylinder minus bubbleT3D. The different basket layers were formed by adding together several julia variations. It reminded me of the pattern in some large woven raffia bags that I've seen.

Day 95- September 4- A script is a piece of code for the JWildfire program that automatically transforms an existing fractal, or creates a new one. It can be set up to do the same thing every time, or have some parts that are randomized. For the jwf group, if you use a script, you have to mention who created it, and change the results enough that it isn't just a copy of their work. I usually like making my own fractals from scratch, but today I decided to try a new script that Missy G. made to create a grid. I changed the angle, perspective, and final shape, as well as adding circles, diamonds, and mapping another picture onto some of the tiles.

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 86-90

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 86-90
This is my journal for the #roundrock100 art project. I pledged to create fractal art every day for 100 days.

Day 86- August 26- Ice and Fire- I unexpectedly created two separate odd shapes, the puzzle-piece blob and the ultra bright glow. I combined them to make this scene.

Day 87- August 27- I experimented with the log_db variation, which makes a line of fern-leaf type patterns. I combined it with loonie, which distorts a small bubble. The combination resulted in some amazing patterns.

Day 88- August 28- I liked how these turned out with the white backgrounds. The first one uses glynnsim3 to make a circular hole and then log to stretch it out into a line. The second one has a final variation with asteria, eJulia, and curl3D.

Day 89- August 29- More log_db and loonie combinations. I tried to make these look more 3D by adding bubble3D, zcone, and curl3D.

Day 90- August 30- I made a few entries for the Letter I&J challenge. I guess there weren't enough letter i variations, so they combined it. These both use idisc and julia variations.

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 81-85

One Hundred Days Art Project- Days 81-85
For the #roundrock100 art project, I am creating digital art every day for one hundred days using JWildfire fractal software. This is my journal for day 81 through 85.

Day 81-August 21- The first picture I did today was a random 3D flower. I simplified it and turned it into a black and white line drawing. Then I added color in paint, and used JWildfire operators to change the colors. I did the same thing on the second one, but after changing the colors, I added a fractal cloud to the picture. It gives a different texture to the result.

Day 82- August 22- This picture started with the same spherical variation that I used yesterday, but I finished it by adding zcone to make it 3D. Then I used post symmetry to fill in with more copies of the design.

Day 83- August 23- I worked on entries for the letter H challenge. The first one used ho and hypertile3D2, with a 3D effect added with JWF operators. The second picture uses heart, hexes, and hemisphere.

Day 84- August 24- I used the same process to create a black and white line drawing, add color in Paint, and use JWildfire operators to change the colors. I went one step further for this picture, and used operators to wrap the picture around a cube.  I made another post-colored picture. I also spent several frustrating hours trying to print some of the pictures I've done. The photo printer I'm using is old, and keeps jamming. For every 30 pictures I print, only 1 comes out. I found out just how wasteful this printer is, because it counts every jammed print, every time you press reset, every power on and off cycle, as a picture. And it will only try to print a certain number per cartridge. Even if I have 5 prints and 95 blank pieces of paper, it thinks it's out of ink! The good news is, I did not have to pay for the printer, the paper, or the ink. If I ever do buy a printer, it won't be this one.

Day 85- August 25- Today I made experimented with combinations of loonie and log_db again. It makes such interesting patterns. I also tried using juliac with the number of repeats set to .5. Most of the other julia variations don't have the ability so set the repeats to halves, so if you pick 1.5 it will round it up to 2. But juliac does the decimals. If you pick something small, like .1, it will make a blurry circle so it's best to stick to numbers that don't have a remainder. Add this to the list of reasons basic math is important.

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 76-80

One Hundred Days Art Project- Days 76-80

Day 76- August 16th- Two more black and white line drawings, colored in with Paint. For the first one, I left the small white spaces uncolored to show off the sand dollar look of the white circles with black lines. On the second one, I filled in all the leftover white spaces with black.

Day 77- August 17th- I used the line drawing I made yesterday as a subflame to create a more complex image. I still had to color each space by hand using the Paint program. For the Letter G challenge, I experimented with grid. I made a simple pattern, and then color mapped it onto a second design to create a tiled look.

Day 78- August 18th- I used operators to transform two more black and white line drawings, after filling in colors with Paint. For the drawing with hearts, I used the bump3D operator. The results remind me of cloisonné, which has enamel paint separated by metal borders. For the second design, I used the HSL gradient transformer. It mutates the colors in a rainbow effect radiating from the center.

Day 79- August 19- I used the Erode operator to make the black lines on the first drawing thicker. The erode operator doesn't seem to affect the colored parts of the design at all. For the second fractal, I used the bump3D operator first to make the black lines stand out more. Then I used a really cool wave effect to make the picture look like a 3D object. It almost looks like a piece of pottery!

Day 80- August 20- More fractals that started as black and white line drawings in JWildfire, then colored in Paint, then transformed with JWildfire operators.  The HSL gradient transforms plain colors into rainbow shading. But I still have to dump color into each area in Paint first- it does not work on black and white.

One Hundred Days Art Project Days 71-75

For the #roundrock100 art project, I pledged to create fractal art each day for one hundred days. To draw the fractals I use JWildfire software from www.jwildfire.org.

This is my journal from days 71-75.

Day 71- August 11

This was another experiment with operators to make adjustments to the picture after the fractal is created. Here I made the flower, added a bump3D effect, and then gave it an antique coloring.

Day 72- August 12- Amoeba and Squares Within Squares- Robert K. from the JWF group wanted to know whether JWildfire could be used to add a pattern inside a masked area. It isn't possible, because JWildfire doesn't have all the graphics tools of something like Adobe Photoshop, But I did find a way to make holes and rings by using circles of glynnsim3 on alternating layers. Here are two of the results that I shared with the JWF group.

Day 73- August 13- Mixed Feelings- this was another black and white line drawing that I colored in Paint. The first version I had posted to the JWF group didn't look good because I forgot to convert it to true black and white before filling it in with colors. The lines looked fuzzy and grey instead of sharp black.

Day 74- August 14- Beanstalk and Geometry Sketch- More black and white line drawings colored with Paint. I finished Beanstalk by adding the Bump3D operator effect. Each color has a different height, so it would not be as interesting to do with a two-color picture. With Geometric Sketch I was left with small white spaces that I wasn't able to color, so I filled them in with black to make the design look more finished.

Day 75- August 15- My G Challenge entry had some 3D effects. I used one layer with a soft, blurred look, and another layer with clearer shapes to give the illusion of background and reflections. Today I also experimented more with layers by combining a black and white line drawing with a second fractal that is shaded in color.
